The Man Who Liked Hell

The Man Who Liked Hell is a gripping hour-long drama inspired by the remarkable memoirs of A.R. “Dick” Cooper—French Foreign Legionnaire, decorated war hero, and British secret agent.

As World War II erupts, Dick Cooper, a hardened ex-Legionnaire, takes on a new role as a secret agent for His Majesty’s forces. Trained in the ruthless tactics of “ungentlemanly warfare,” Cooper’s missions are shaped by his earlier experiences as a naive and rebellious 15-year-old in the punishing French Foreign Legion.

This series intertwines two parallel narratives, exploring Cooper at opposite ends of his life. In World War I, he is a lost boy with nothing to lose, shaped by the chaos of battle and the morally complex men of the Legion who surround him. By World War II, he is a devoted husband and father, torn between family and the siren call of war.

A powerful tale of resilience, loss, and redemption, The Man Who Liked Hell transcends the traditional war drama, delving into the complexity of a man forged by two of history’s greatest conflicts.
